We tend to forget that the wartime generation missed out on bananas (as the song 'when can I have a banana again?' might suggest) and it's just possible that they were still a little exotic to kids by the sixties as they still came from 'the colonies' -mostly the West Indies at that time. Indeed, Leeward and Windward Islands bananas are probably still the best there are- highly scented and utterly delicious. Why, yes, I DO adore bananas! :o)
