Old timey rock and roll
Jun. 9th, 2013 10:31 amThe Sage in exile at Gateshead Old Town Hall last night offered us Gordie Mackeeman & his Rhythm Boys from Price Edward Island, bursting onto the stage in a clatter of fancy footwork and high-energy music:
durham_rambler commented that it felt like the sort of traditional music that might have shaped Elvis and the Everly brothers, and it did, but it also felt like what you would get if that rock and roll material was as much part of your roots as old timey and bluegrass music - which was disconcerting.
They also played some contemporary stuff, mainly songs, of which the one that stood out was a cover of Heroes of the Sidewalk by another PEI band, Two Hours Traffic.
A terrific band to see live, in short - and in short it will have to be, as we're off out to lunch now!
