This afternoon we did actual, in person, social life.

Our friends F. and J. both live alone, and so are both entitled to set up a bubble with one other household: within that bubble, they can behave like a single household, visit each other's homes, hug each other if they want to ... Clearly this is designed to appease grandparents, and clearly it will be a boon to some grandparents while helping others not at all. F's grandchildren all live far enough away that she decided she would prefer her bubble to admit someone who would make more use of it, so she and J. are now in a bubble (which is very well timed for J., whose water supply is currently being interrupted by a major improvement scheme).

[personal profile] durham_rambler and I helped celebrate the inauguration of their bubble by joining them in F's garden, to drink tea and talk of this and that: how pretty the pink roses were looking, and how strange and angular the neighbour's television aerial, and whether the celebration of D's significant birthday, planned for August, in Scotland, was likely to happen ...

It was all very pleasant. Then we came home, and checked the news, to see what Boris had actually announced, and how much of what he is promising we are prepared to accept.
