The Guardian has a new feature each Monday, running through some of the events of the coming week. Here's a clipping from last Monday's list:

I was baffled, at first, by the information that Wednesday was Labour Day. Labor Day we know - but that's at the other end of the year. April 29th is Labour Day? Since when?

Then I looked again, and realised that no, we weren't talking about April 29th, but about the other Wednesday, the one that falls between Thursday and Saturday - today, in fact, May 1st, la Fête du Travail.

Fair enough, then. Happy Labour Day, everybody!
