durham_rambler - via him twice, actually, first because he read me the story from the local paper (caution: if you click through - and why wouldn't you, they have pictures and video and stuff? - there is an excruciating headline. Don't say I didn't warn you.) this morning over breakfast, second because he got as far as posting about it before I did:
The bells of St Nick's - in Durham Market Place - have been taken down and returned to the manufacturer for repair and renovation. The manufacturer being Whitechapel Bell Foundry, where they were cast in 1687.
