samarcand and Candy's first wedding anniversary. Music was provided by mp3 player, and yet again I thought about what a neat little gadget this is, and what fun it would be to sort my music into playlists suitable for all occasions, and how good it would be to transfer the music we have only on vinyl and therefore never hear... In reality, of course, even if I bought the toy, I'd never find time to load all those tracks onto it. Yet it becomes doubly desirable now that we've moved to a combined DVD player / hard disk recorder, and can't play CDs while things are recording (or might be).
samarcand was looking very pretty in a strappy little chocolate brown frock (chocolate - the other theme of the evening) with stylish asymmetric hem: perhaps there will be photos, later. Certainly photos were taken: a camera was thrust into my hands and I did my best, but it was late in the evening, and I was not as sober as I had been. Also: memo to self - stop being nervous of flash, and learn how it behaves so you can make use of it.
A third theme: guests were divided between those who arrived late because they had watched Doctor Who first, and those who were recording it. We were among the latter (recording both for ourselves and forsamarcand, whose recorder is away being mended; but discovered this morning that although the recorder had done its job admirably, the digi-box had decided to switch itself off before the end of the programme. So we're trying again tonight.
Pork and lentils are in the oven, and should be nearly ready by now, so I was going to end by saying that fortunately I felt pretty competent where the cooker was concerned: but then I remembered that the smaller oven stopped working a year or so ago, and we've never got round to doing anything about it. Up to a point there, too, then.
