A day in town doing various odds and ends. A quick check-in with [livejournal.com profile] samarcand, then to the Tyneside Cinema for the preview of Match Point, all full of hope, because I tend to like Woody Allen even when the reviews are bad, and this time round I'd been hearing expressions like "a return to form": Catherine Bennet, for example, in The Guardian, said it was "Like no Woody Allen I have ever seen, ie gripping."

Did we really see the same movie? )

After the movie we went, as is traditional, to the pub for fish and chips, and then I shopped, buying two very cheap calendars - one with Arts & Crafts images for the kitchen, one with puffins (yay! puffins) to hang by my desk - and some bath smellies from Boots. Coffee over my book ([livejournal.com profile] mevennen, if you're with me at this point, I'm reading and very much enjoying The Poison Master), and then to the library for the Graphic Novels Reading Group. This was a little shapeless - as much my fault as anyone's, since I had skimmed the book under discussion (the Flight anthology from Image), but not recently - but good to make contact again, and I hope to be better prepared next time.

[livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler picked me up at the station, fed me pizza and wine, told me about his day and, after I had launched on about the third explanation of what was wrong with the movie, said "You'd better put it in your LJ." So I have.
