Curse Like a Pirate Day Observed
Sep. 18th, 2007 10:29 pmTomorrow is Talk Like a Pirate Day, and we will celebrate it by taking to the high seas; I hope they won't be too high, since we make the long crossing from North Shields to Amsterdam, in order to spend a leisurely week or so driving through France.
But first we have the getting ready - not yet the packing, but the finishing off work commitments and the washing and ironing, the cleaning of boots and - this was the fun one - the defrosting of the freezer.
Part of the fault is certainly mine; I never defrost the freezer until it is months, if not years, overdue. But there is something odd about the design of the freezer, too, since there is no obvious way to remove from the bottom of the chest the water that gathers there as the ice melts. Which is why this morning found me bent double bailing out with a ladle, and then swabbing out the last of the icy water with a cloth - and, I promise you, cursing like a pirate.
