Mythic libraries

The recent Doctor Who two-parter Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead is only the latest in the list of libraries to make your mind reel. The labyrinth in The Name of the Rose, the library of the Unseen University with its chained books (and unchained Librarian), the library of Dream in Sandman, where Lucien presides over a collection of all the books anyone has ever dreamed of writing - and there are some more dream libraries here.

But the library of Baghdad is real.

You forgot Borges's Library of Babel which is pretty much the daddy of all these other ones.

Well, it's certainly the daddy of Eco's labyrinth: but who am I to interfere with the laws of causality (http://www.lspace.org/about/whatis-lspace.html)?

He's called Eskander, and he loves libraries. 'Nuff said, really.

The article about the Baghdad library was fascinating, and very sad. I hope he (and it) survives.
