A proper blog (with blinks)

From the current issue of the Ansible:
Because Alta Vista has copyrighted the phrase "babel fish" Disney had to negotiate a special deal in order to be able to use those words in the Hitchhiker's movie. But the agreement does not extend to the DVD extras so although a picture of a babel fish can be shown, none of the documentaries or other features can include the words "babel fish", either spoken or written.

Also via the Ansible, the unveiling of a bronze bust of Dan Dare, in Southport.

[livejournal.com profile] matociquala is feeling poorly, and as a result is more productive and more lucid than any half dozen normal mortals. She lured me into Trever Talbert's pipe shop: a Lampton worm pipe! A Cthulhu pipe! And a list of the differences that strike an American pipe-maker living in France.

Plus, courtesy of Wikipedia, the National Anthem of Vanuatu: Yumi, Yumi, Yumi (it's in Bislama, but they provide an English translation).

The pipe site was fascinating, on so many levels. Hours of reading there.

That bust of Dan Dare was really rather scary in the eyebrow region.

Now that you mention it, Dan Dare's eyebrows always did look as if they had minds of their own!

It's about time someone created a tribute to Dan Dare! (You probably didn't think I'd know who he is- I thank the Mekons for that.)

I am already overawed at the breadth and depth of your reading!

Cor!

The Dan Dare bust is cool! Or is that Kewl? No, on the other hand it's probably neither. This is, after all Dan Dare. So it's more likely to be 'Smashing' or even 'Whizzer', isn't it?)

Is the second line of the Vanuata national anthem 'I've got love in my tummy'?
