My newspaper is written by 12-year olds

- and, what's worse, sub-edited by them, too. From yesterday's profile of Rick Stein:
Stein became one of the original celebrity chefs, making his first TV series in the mid-90s.

Obviously, a celebrity chef is someone who has a television series, which excludes people like Escoffier and Soyer. The guide who showed us around Highgate cemetery didn't know Philip Harben's claim to fame, though I'd call him the first television chef. Even Keith Floyd - Floyd on Fish (BBC, 1984) might be a precedent.

But no, before the mid-90s is Time Immemorial.
