I have no problem with the digital smoothing of the film: it irritates me that we think of silent movies as inherently fast and jerky, when that's just a result of our running them at the wrong speed.
I agree that movies should be played at their correct frame rates. But there are always artifacts of a film having been made in its time and I get weird about those being erased or amended for future generations. Sometimes the flicker isn't damage, it's just the way the day went into the film. I know it throws a lot of audiences out; it makes it feel more real for me.
