I have no problem with the digital smoothing of the film: it irritates me that we think of silent movies as inherently fast and jerky, when that's just a result of our running them at the wrong speed.
The colour I was less sure about. For one think, it involves more choices. (It's quite intense.) And while the result gains in immediacy, but - oh, I don't know how much of my reaction was to the use of colour, and how much to other things.
Most of the people I've talked to about it recommended it highly, even those who were very hesitant about the colour. Don't be deterred by my ambivalence, or by the colour, unless - unless you want to be, I guess!
