I'm relieved that I wasn't imagining the status of The Little White Horse as a book by which people were, as you say, Enchanted^TM. And intrigued that the things that didn't work for you about Linnets and Valerians (which I haven't read) are pretty much the things that didn't work for me in The Little White Horse.
