I think that reading-blurred-shapes skill is quite a significant effect. Abrinsky's vision - once corrected - is perfect, as a result of which he cannot tolerate anything less than perfection; he can see/read a thing, or he can't. I have peculiar eyesight which, for distances, is never perfect even with my glasses; I can read things when I can't really see them.
