Oh, I never found it less than readable; but unsatisfying, yes, certainly. I do feel she's doing something of her own with the traditional fantasy structure here - but I also feel that it's overshadowed by that structure.

On the other hand, while I love the Tough Guide, I'm lukewarm about the related novels.
