I am impressed. You have got to the heart of my own problems with Skellig which I found a book that I sort-of admired but rather disliked. I too found it deeply unengaging, and did not,to be honest, think much more than, "I'm glad I don't have to read that again." I didn't really understand what Almond was getting at and couldn't be bothered to think it through - you've done it for me.
