A five-legged post

I listened last night to the Radio 2 Folk Awards: some fine music, worth a listen. But, for future reference, when Martin Simpson wins (again) Album of the Year again, it is not tactful to illustrate his achievement with a clip from Been on the job too long.

[livejournal.com profile] desperance clearly hit a nerve with his post on telephone etiquette: the telephone-averse rushed to comment, and I was among them. But later that evening I talked on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] samarcand, for the first time in too long, and enjoyed it muchly. I'd rather see my friends in person, but when that can't be arranged, why do I find it so difficult to pick up the phone?

[livejournal.com profile] durham_rambler and I celebrate an anniversary today; Friday 13th (oh, yes!) February 1970. It just worked out that way, and it was an era when St Valentine's day was not a week-long orgy of red shiny hearts, cuddly toys and chocolate, so it was possible to celebrate the day before, if you so chose, without a sugar overdose. But I digress. This morning I found on the doormat a card with a picture of two tortoises. Now, that's what I call romantic.

Somewhere it is half-term, and The Guardian is providing a supplement to entertain the children. It includes an easy Sudoku, easy enough for me to do, and since I am trying to understand this addiction, I do. For those of you playing along at home, this morning's hint is "which number should go in the circle, 3 or 5?" - and the answer is "no, 2"

We are Friday 17th, and of course, the only day this week (and weekend) we can spend time together is.... the 14th.

I've been trying to remember where I first heard that inflationary song; I'm fairly sure it was a cabaret singer / humorist of the fifties and sixties and the first name was Victor? but beyond that I do not know. And for once Google has let me down.

Congratulations on your anniversary! That is a truly inspiring amount of time to be together, and so happily.

Friday the 13th is secretly a lucky day for Rob and I, too: it's the day we bought this house. Would that we will live together in it for as long and as happily as you and your beloved!
